Kenya makes its debut at the Commonwealth Games (then British Empire and Commonwealth Games) in Vancouver. Nyandika Maiyoko makes history by winning bronze in the 3 miles race.

1956

First Olympic Appearance

Kenya participates in the Olympic Games for the first time in Melbourne, Australia, sending a team of 14 athletes.

1964

First Olympic Medal

Wilson Kiprugut wins bronze in the 800m at the Tokyo Olympics, securing Kenya's first-ever Olympic medal.
